Which months, which tee times

How rain, heat and daylight shape a round on Phu Quoc, month by month: the dry and wet seasons, sunrise times against the 06:00 first tee, what happens when lightning stops play, and when green fees are higher.

The year at a glance

3 = ideal, 2 = good, 1 = wet season: still playable in the mornings, but expect rain and rough sea on the west coast.

Phu Quoc has two seasons. The dry season runs roughly November to April, with calm seas and clear skies; the rainy season runs May to October, with rougher seas and short, heavy showers. Sources draw the line differently: some give December to March as the dry core and April to November as rainy. The table below uses the island's climate averages so you can judge the edges yourself.

Temperatures barely move through the year; the mean high stays between 29.5 and 32.5 °C. What changes is the rain, from under 30 mm a month in January and February to almost 490 mm in August. Vinpearl's 2026 rate sheet follows the same pattern: peak fees from November to March, low fees from April to October. April is the oddity, low-fee but the hottest month, with midday temperatures often reaching 34 to 36 °C.

Vinpearl's tee sheet opens at 06:00. From May to September the sun is up before that; from December to February, a 06:00 start means teeing off in twilight, about 20 minutes before sunrise. We usually ask for 06:30 to 07:00 in the dry months and the very first slots in the hot and wet months.

The last tee time is 15:00. An 18-hole round needs roughly four and a half hours by our planning assumption, so a full round from 15:00 would finish after sunset in every month of the year: sunset is 17:49 in late December and 18:29 in late June. A 15:00 slot suits nine holes. Eschuri lists a twilight package built around afternoon tee times, without publishing its price or how many holes it covers.

Heat: why the morning wins

Mean highs of 30 to 32 °C hide how a round feels: humidity, little shade on open holes, and a cart that only moves on the path. A Vietnam golf cost guide recommends tee times before 08:00 for cooler air, and beach safety advice on Phu Quoc is to keep out of the midday sun between 11:00 and 14:00.

  • Tee off by 07:00 and you play most of the round before 11:00.
  • Drink water through the round, not only at the turn, and carry more than you think you need.
  • Wear a hat and sun cream rated SPF 50 or higher; Vinpearl lends umbrellas free.
  • In April, add a rest day between rounds if you can.

Rain and lightning

In the wet months showers are short and heavy, and a Vietnam golf cost guide notes that in the south downpours tend to come in the afternoon. The practical response is the same as for heat: play early. A 06:30 start finishes before the time most storms build.

When lightning is near, Vinpearl stops play with three long horn blasts. Players and caddies go to the nearest shelter; play resumes 30 minutes after the last strike, on one long blast. The published rules do not cover refunds, so we confirm each club's terms for your date, and in the wet season we keep a fallback morning in the stay packages.

July to September can bring storms with heavy rain and fairly strong wind, though Phu Quoc is among the places in Vietnam least often hit directly by major storms.
